SpecTec GmbH Finalist in DAME Design Award 2008

1st Dec 2008:
SpecTec GmbH, has made it to the final round of the DAME Design Award 2008, a very prestigious technology contest, for its’ IDEA Crew-ID-Card System.

First held in 1991, the DAME (Design Award METS) is now recognised as the world’s leading design competition for new marine equipment and accessories. The DAME prize is awarded annually by an independent panel of judges for the best designed product at METS.
All product registration fees for DAME 2008 will be donated to the International Association of Disabled Sailing (IFDS).

Nominee: IDEA Crew ID Card System:

Access to ships must in particular be carefully controlled on large yachts that need to comply with the ISPS code. Credit-card sized ID cards can be easily created for the crew, guests and even external service technicians with the Crew-ID-Card printer incorporated into the IDEA crew database. In addition to important personal data, the ID cards also contain a photo and a barcode, which can be scanned by the security staff on embarking or disembarking by me¬ans of a portable scanner connected to the central server through the yacht’s wireless network. This means that a precise overview of people on board is possible at all times.

SpecTec purchases IDEA GmbH

22th Dec 07:
SpecTec announces to have purchased the totality of the shares of Idea Nautic Data Solutions GmbH of Dusseldorf, Germany, a leading IT supplier of Vessel Management Systems in the Yachting world.

Idea Vessel Management Software is installed today on more than 250 Super yachts, such as: Le Grand Bleu (12th largest yacht in the world), Indian Empress (17), Alfa Nero (29), Amevi (32), Constellation (33), Haida G (36), Princess Marianna (41), Ilona (46), just to name a few.

SpecTec AMOS system, installed on close to 7000 merchant vessels in the world, is also used on super yachts, including Dubai, the world’s largest yacht, Octopus, Kingdom 5KR. SpecTec has a network of 24 fully owned and managed offices worldwide, with over 220 direct employees and 80 more through its network of agents.

The union between the two companies will provide an optimal synergy between strength and competence. SpecTec economic and network strengths, and Idea competence and knowledge in the Super yacht market, will give life to an optimal solution for the white boat industry. Moreover, this union will give both companies a boost in their respective sectors, as SpecTec will be able to enlarge its activities in the buoyant German merchant shipping market.

Idea will maintain its office in Dusseldorf but all operational and financial activities will be merged with the SpecTec office in Hamburg. This will bring the total number of employed staff in Germany by the SpecTec Group to 16 people.

Sebastian Allebrodt, founder and MD of Idea, will become MD of SpecTec Germany.

SpecTec intends to pursue consolidation and growth in the IT sector in shipping, oil&gas and Defence sectors, through more acquisitions and mergers.

New wireless Inventory Management System

8th Jul 07:
IDEA launches new wireless inventory management system. The Windows Mobile ^TM bases devices are equiped with laser barcode scanners. First installation will be on a 130m megayacht new-build in Germany.

M/Y "Lady Anne" receives the "Certificate of Operation of an approved Machinery Planned Maintenance Scheme" 

21st Feb 07:
M/Y "Lady Anne" receives the "Certificate of Operation of an approved Machinery Planned Maintenance Scheme" by Lloyds register. The system allows the crew to carry out large parts of the class inspection themselves while operating the ship. This allows both to reduce the costs and downtimes related to inspections by the classification society.

IDEA signed contract with Radio Holland 

1st Jan 07:
IDEA has signed a marketing and sales contract with maritime electronics specialists Radio Holland. Radio Holland will distribute and service IDEA products in the Netherlands and the United States. The agreement was signed during the Ft. Lauderdale International Boatshow by Sebastian Allebrodt of IDEA and Erik van Boom of Radio Holland.
